There are three kinds of cloudiness in a fish tank. One is the New Water cloudiness that is caused by microscopic bubbles of air suspended in the water. This will eventually dissipate leaving the water crystal clear. No need to worry. Then there is the greenish tinge to the water. This is caused by suspended algae in the water due to an overabundance of light and food for plants but insufficient plants in the water table to use them up. To fix this you can add water plants to the tank to use up the available extra light and food and at the same time you can reduce the intensity of the light and the lentgh of time it is on. The last kind of cloudiness is a greyish colour and is very dangerous if nothing is done to remove it. It is a cloud of Bacteria and is a warning that the water is very bad and will shortly start killing the fish. The only thing to do when this happens is to clean out the whole tank and start again with everything freshly scrubbed and washed. Then stick to the rules below. The basic rules are. :- 1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water. Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank needs to have at least 50% of its water changed every week. . Follow the above rules and keep your fish at the temperature they need. Feed them just as much as they can eat in 15 minutes morning and evening and no more, and your fish will stand a chance of having a healthy life. Fail in any of the above and I can guarantee that your fish will have constant health problems.
