Different species need different triggers to make them decide to breed. In some species the trigger is a rising of the water levels. This is usually associated with a wet season. In others the opposite is required as the water evaporates off and the fish think they are going to die, they spawn and their eggs survive in the dried mud until the next rains. In cooler climates the advent of spring and the warmer weather is the key. As I mentioned before. There is no single season for breeding. Different species have different requirements.
