The Megamouth shark (Megachasma pelagios)was founded first in 1976. The Megamouth is an extremely rare species of a deepwater shark species. Only 54 specimens have seen this extraordinary creature as of 2012, and three recordings on tape. Very like the basking shark or the whale shark, it is a filter-feeder, and swims with it's gigantic mouth wide open, filtering and searching for plankton and jellyfish, it's two very common prey. It is distincltly known for it's large head and rubber-like lips. It is unlike any other type of shark that it is classified as it's own group, or family, Megachasmidae, though it has been suggested to be part of the Cetorhinidae of which the basking shark is currently the soul member.
