They're a natural preditor. It's in their instincts to hunt until they're full, sort of float to hibernate Er sleep whatever you wanna call it ( they never actually fall into a state of unawareness ) then rinse and repeat. There's no need for a mother figure in this sort of "selfish" lifestyle
