Proprietary trade secret of Frito Lay, Inc. AFAIK. It has been looked at by competitors very carefully, I am told. If it were easily copied, the market would have been long ago flooded with cheaper competing brands, but there are apparently none. The patent would have run out, being more than 20 years, but no patent was filed to the best of my knowledge, especially a keystone one. Maybe distantly supporting ones, but even that would invite inspection.

Baked lays
A 1-ounce serving of Baked Lay's is about 110 calories.
They are healthier than regular lays... which are fried (anything fried is bad for you)... but they are not particularly healthy... :)
The baked has less fat because they are not fried in oil. The fried are deep fried in vegetable oil. Therefore only eat the fried ones once in a fortnight.

Yes. Doritos, Lays, Fritos, etc, are all some competition for the Baked Hot Cheetos. However, saying that Doritos is the BIGGEST competition for them, can be controversial.
Comparing other chips to Lays Potato chips can be done by taste, texture and content. Lay's potato chips have a large amount of fat and calories, while other brands such as Sun Chips have considerably less. Lays Baked chips are also a healthier option.
baked
A danish is an inanimate baked good, I doubt that it makes other baked goods.
No, it has to be baked.
