Are betta fish compatible with other fish?

i have one =] i dont think you should put two guys together because i think they will fight but i guess its okay to put a guy with a girl =] the guys are the pretty ones... mines like blue an purple... hes stupid though cuz he always chokes on his food xD

They are one and the same. The Betta splendens is commonly called Fighting fish, Chinese fighting fish, Siamese fighting fish, Malaysian fighting fish and just Betta. Two males will fight to the death and a male will kill a female if she is not prepared to spawn with him. He will also kill the female after she has spawned. So the rule is only one Betta splendens to a tank.

Yes. It is only male Bettas that will fight and then they will only fight other male Bettas.
Betta Fish can only be with some fish. Two male betta fish cannot be with each other. A lot of the time other fish can't be with betta fish. DO NOT put fin nippers ( like tiger barbs) with bettas because they with bite at their long tail. You can put two females together but they have to be in a at least 10 gallon tank with lots of hiding places.

Mostly, betta fish are aggressive and will eat smaller fish.

They can. Mostly you should only keep one male though because they might fight. I don't speak from experience because I have 5 male bettas and 7 female and they are very peaceful. Still you should keep at least 1 male so they can breed.

Females can be. Males need to live one Betta to the tank - you can have other fish in with him, but no other bettas, other anabantids, or any other long-finned fish.
