Wild hamsters are significant pests due to their habit of hoarding food. Unlike a mouse who will eat what it needs each time, a hamster will fill its cheek pouches with food and take it back to its nest, and it will do this each time. Because of this is can destroy more crops than you'd expect from a creature of that size.
