Well it is really their eyes.
Fiddler crabs dig burrows to create a safe shelter from predators and to regulate their body temperature. Burrowing also helps them stay hydrated by preserving moisture in the burrow. Additionally, male fiddler crabs use their burrows to attract mates and establish dominance within their territory.
You can make salt water for fiddler crabs. You need to use sea salt. Never use table salt. And you need to use distilled water or water that has been treated to remove the chlorine. You can get sea salt at a pet store. 1 tea salt to 1 gallon water. Change it often.
Yes, you can use a halogen bulb in a regular lamp as long as the bulb wattage does not exceed the lamp's recommended wattage limit. Additionally, be careful when handling halogen bulbs as they can get very hot during operation.
No, they use more electricity.
Yes, but it's really not going to get hot enough for your turtle. Also, make sure you have at least TWO lamps, a heat lamp, and a UVB emulating lamp.
The Samsung lamp is used in DLP TV's and it delivers superior picture quality. I can burn out during regular use and can be replaced with a little effort on your part.

You should be able to use a self ballasted lamp in a regular socket safely as long as you do not exceed the wattage recommendations of the fixture. Self Ballasted simply means that the electronics to drive the flourescent bulb are all contained withing the packaging of the lamp. I hope this cleared up the question. Ben M. Most turtles will eat fiddler crabs. When I got my turtle he ate everything that moved (fish, fiddlers, and a snail) Recently though, he hasn't touched any of the fish and prefers to eat the turtle sticks and freeze-dried shrimp treats. I bought two fiddlers yesterday and they seem to be getting along just fine. If you buy a bunch you can use them as food and a cleaning crew. A nice little snack for the turt and a clean tank!
