Generally, crabs feed on any other small fishes or crustaceans, alive or dead that they can catch. For fishing purposes, we use old, cut-up sections of stinky, dead fish. The odor attracts them to the crab net. Here in Oregon, a particularly vitriolic insult or threat is to call someone "Crab Bait". As in, "OK, nowyou're crab bait." (The threat) And, "Ugh! He looks like crab bait to me." (Not attractive and/or clean) :>)
