i have herd that eating poppy seeds that are found in pastry cakes can cause a false positive test for meth. poppy seeds cause a positive for marijuana - not meth. Actually you are both very wrong. Poppy seeds can cause a false positive for opiates(heroin, morphine, etc). Opiates are made from the poppy plant. Wow who ever said these top two are STUPID. I am speachless.
Poppy seeds can cause a false positive on a drug test, however it would have to be a lot of them.
Sesame seeds are fine to eat for people who can get tested for drugs. Poppy seeds are a different story. FWIW, some agencies have raised the cutoff for opiates to 2000 ng/ml to eliminate poppy seed as a cause of a positive opiate screen.
Poppy seeds; and it's spelled "opiates".
Opiates are one of a general group of related organic molecules, many of which can actively be processed into specific opiates with the right knowledge. Opiate tests actually look for digestive products of opiates, not the drugs themselves. Many of the related molecules can cause the same reactions as these byproducts when tested, leading to a false positive for opiates. The best example is poppy seeds; these contain large enough amounts that consuming a sixpack of poppy seed bagels or a poppy seed loaf can cause a buildup which leads to a false positive (as demonstrated on Mythbusters and backed up by records of people being fired for false positives made after eating some poppy seed bakery goods for breakfast/lunch).
Basically if there is any heroin in your system it will show up on a UDT. The test is so sensitive that eating foods containing poppy seeds can cause a false positive. This is because the UDT isn't measuring the levels of heroin in your body, but the levels of a heroin metabolite. This metabolite is also a byproduct of poppy seed digestion, hence the false positive.
no amount, poppy seeds only give a false positive for, heroin or, opiates !
Certain herbs, such as poppy seeds and kratom, can lead to false positives for opiates in drug tests. Poppy seeds, derived from the opium poppy, can contain trace amounts of morphine and codeine, potentially triggering a positive result. Kratom, while not an opiate, interacts with opioid receptors and may also produce misleading results. It's important for individuals to inform testing administrators of any herbal supplements they are taking.
You can get a false positive on a drug test a few different ways. For example, if you eat something that contains poppy seeds like a hard roll; you will test positive for opiate drugs. There are also some legal over-the-counter medications that can cause false positives.
poppy seeds
Why would you want to do that? If you want a false positive without actually having the fun of consuming narcotics, you can eat poppy seeds.
Taking a drug that has morphine in it. This includes heroin. Heroin will return a positive result for morphine. Morphine of course will also; however, morphine is rarely available on the street.
