No. Captan is mutagenic, carcinogenic and tetragenic and is similar to thalidomide in structure. Often the seed sold for planting is coated with it, so while you wouldn't eat the seed directly, the crop produced from it would be considered safe to eat. I prefer to use untreated seed as the pesticide can remain in the soil and enter the plant in small quantities.
