Nope. Overworked fondant is bad fondant. Conceivably you could but the finished product would be worse then if the cake was merely frosted with butter cream which I would suggest if you find fondant too difficult.

Do you have to put icing under the fondant on a cake?

No. You do not have to put icing under the fondant on a cake. You can bake a cake and not put any icing on it and just put fondant on it if you wish. No law forces you to put icing on the cake. With that said, How do you plan to stop the icing at the edge of the fondant? Which will you apply first? Normally sugar in the the icing causes it to stick to the cake and also causes the fondant to stick to the icing. So if you have messy people eating your cakes and do not want the fondant to fall off the plates onto the rug as they walk around the living room at a party, it would be best to use icing as a glue.

Can you put icing under your fondant on a cake?

Yes. Fondant has a very interesting texture and the few times I have had it its been very interesting. The kind i had was almond flavored and was very nice. I see no reason to not eat it unless the baker used the cheap Wilton brand fondant that you can buy from wal mart. That stuff tastes like plastic and I would not recommend eating it.

Can you use regular cake frosting for a wedding cake?

i would say yes but to make it look good you want to first crumb coat it so what you do is simply add a very thin layer of frosting and refrigerate then take it out and frost it its better this way it helps for crumbs not to come off and it looks OS much nicer either that or buy fondant add a very small layer of frosting to your cake and put the fondant and it looks very nice that is actually what bakers do Let me know if this helped you out =)

How do bakers get they cakes to look smooth?

Well first of all you need to have a particular shaped -out icing spread and if you watch many ADS (advertisments). You can see they always will say about icing spreaders. Cover the iced cake with a sheet of wax paper and smooth it out with your hand. Refrigerate the cake for awhile and peel off the wax paper once the icing has hardened. You will know it is ready when the icing does not stick to the paper. Another way to have the effect of smooth icing is to use fondant. It is like dough, but it is made mostly out of sugar and its easier than trying to get icing smooth..

How do you make a wedding cake?

First, decide how many guests the cake will need to feed. It might be easier to make a small cake to, ""cut,"" and a sheet cake to actually feed everyone. Then you need to decide if you want a round or square cake. Second, purchase all needed ingredients and cake pans. I would advise testing out recipes first so you know exactly how the cake will taste. You will also need to purchase some fondant (which should be available at craft stores). Third, bake the layers of the cake in the desired shape and size. Then stack the layers with icing to hold them together. Fourth, put a layer of butter cream icing all around the outside of the cake. Then you'll want to roll our the fondant and put it on top (follow the package directions since each fondant brand will be a little bit different). Fifth, add flowers and or pipe icing designs. Adding store-bought fake flowers will probably be the easiest. Just take the flowers off before you serve the cake to the guests.

How do you keep fondant from drying while working?

Fondant is a sugary mixture that becomes like modeling clay when at room temperature and it's used to cover decorated cakes. Since the cake needs to be at room temperature to serve and since fondant can easily become soft enough to sag or slide off the cake, the best way to keep it from melting is to keep it refrigerated until you're ready to serve and only give it an hour or so to warm up. Keep any unserved portion back in the fridge. To keep it from melting while your working with it to cover the cake or make the decorations, keep the room cooler than you would usually and stay away from sunny windows, the oven and any other heat source.

How do you flip an upside down pineapple cake?

1Prepare the cake mixes, following the directions on the back of the box. This will involve adding eggs, vegetable oil and water to the cake mix and mixing until all lumps are gone.2Place a piece of wax paper in the bottom of each cake pan.3Fill each of the cake pans slightly more than halfway full. There will be a little batter left over to discard or bake separately.4Bake the cakes for the time suggested on the box. Check for doneness by placing a butter knife or toothpick in the center of each layer. If it comes out clean, the cake is done.5Allow the cakes to cool completely, then remove them from the pans.6Trim off the bubble that formed on the top of each layer during baking so the tops are flat.7Cut one 6-inch layer and one 8-inch layer diagonally from the top corner on one side to the bottom corner on the opposite side. The result will be two identical wedges of cake.Assembly1 Place a round layer as the base of each tier, and attach a wedge piece, flat side down, to the top of the base piece with frosting. Then place the second wedge piece on the very top so the largest parts of the two wedges are on the same side.2 Carve the tiers slightly to ensure that the sides have an even look to them. Trim only small pieces at a time.3 Carve a well in the bottom tier to support the upper tier. This well should be barely large enough to accommodate the circumference of the higher tier once covered with fondant. The well should offer a flat resting place for the upper tier. Therefore, the well will be deeper into the topsy-turvy cake on one side than the other. The deepest part of the well should be no deeper than 1 inch into the top of the bottom tier. This well can be carved using the knife and the 6-inch cake pan to measure the size.4 Cover each tier with a layer of frosting then fondant. Be careful to roll out the fondant to the right size. Having to remove a placed fondant to reroll it can be tricky and messy. To place fondant, simply lay the rolled out fondant down gently onto the top of each tier and use the fondant smoother to get an even look. Leave the well at the top of the lower tier empty. Trim off any extra fondant from the sides.
