They made sweetmeats and dessert pyramids. These dessert pyramids were filled with jelly, jams, and fresh fruit. In colonial times, the confectioners would sweeten up desserts with brown sugar, corn syrup, honey, maple sugar, molasses,nuts and marzipan. This gave them cakes, brittle, and chocolate.
