Do goldfish close their eyes when they die?

Goldfish will lay on their side and open their gills when they die. It can also float towards the surface. If you are not sure prod it respectfully and gently. If they continue to lay side on and their gills don't close again, assume it's dead. The best way for a goldfish to exit the world is to flush it as it can remain in water. Don't just bin it, have some respect. FLUSHING IS NOT AS CRUEL AS YOU BELIEVE.

If your Goldfish went black and then died, the black/brown markings would have been ammonia burns and the Goldfish would have died from ammonia poisoning.

This is why Goldfish need massive over filtered fish tanks in order to thrive, in an unfiltered bowl they will die this way, and may or may not exhibit black/brown markings before they go to the great lake in the sky. Ammonia burns gill tissue and ultimately suffocates them to death.

Well they would be at the bottem of the tank if they were (just sayin) They would look clean and they would look very light with there colour and they would sleep lot and eat a lot:)
