Thrush is caused by an overgrowth of yeast in the mouth of infants. Usually this happens if a baby switches from breast to bottle and the bottle is not properly sanitized first. Thrush is basically the equivalent of a female yeast infection only a baby's starts in the mouth. After a baby has taken the required medication to get rid thrush they will usually get a diaper rash resulting in small white pimples. The doctor may give you a ointment to apply.
Vaginal thrush is caused by an overpopulation of yeast in the vagina when the bacterial population decreases. The bacteria usually produce an acid called lactic acid, and when they're not around the acidity of the vagina decreases and this allows the yeast to grow out of control. Yogurt has similar (harmless) bacteria that also produce lactic acid. (This is actually what causes the milk to change into yogurt.) So applying yogurt to your vulva (the area around your vagina; not inside it) usually cures a yeast infection. It's totally natural, and totally safe.
Candida is a species of yeast that is part of the normal flora on the skin and in the vagina of a human. What we call a "yeast infection" isn't a condition in which a person "catches" yeast, but is an imbalance or overgrowth of yeast. Candida causes diaper rash, intertrigo, vaginitis, oral thrush, and balanitis. None of these are considered "infectious diseases" that one catches from another human.
Thrush is caused by over use of oral rinses or mouth washes. You were using mouth wash way too much and threw the oral bacterial balance out of whack. Stop using the mouth wash and see your doctor, you will not need to remove the jewellery, we just need to get the oral bacterial count back into balance and every thing will be fine. You doctor will recommend or prescribe a treatment, follow his/her instructions and ignore what your piercing studio told you because clearly there information caused your issue in the first place.
My daughter had thrush when I was breastfeeding, and from what I recall, the doctor informed me that thrush was a form of yeast infection, and I was likely to contract this. Thrush can be particularly difficult to get rid of, and of course my daughters was, and I eventually did get a yeast infection myself and had to be treated. After several long weeks of unsuccessfully treating my daughter, the doctor did a dye rinse in her mouth. It was like a blue ink and stained whatever it contacted, however, it was a last resort, and took away the thrush. I have seen this same thing happen to other mothers who breastfeed and it is transferred back and forth...however, it will also happen to bottle fed babies, simply because of the close contact....and also because some people/babies are more prone to catching yeast infections...yogurt in their diet helps alot if they are old enough...there is also a supplement you can take to ward off yeast infections if you contract it yourself...it is called acidopholus (not sure of spelling) and is available at most drug stores or health food stores. Good luck to you and your baby.
