It can, but it's more rare than it actually growing in the cage, especially if you have a glass tank.
You should let it mold. It is part of life for a Hermit crab.
I'm willing to bet your hermit crab doesn't like cheerios since mold has grown on them. Maybe try hermit crab food, or lettuce? or maybe honey nut cherrios:)
Its a good if it doesn't smell if it smells that can be a bad thing like ...... dead hermit crab, mold or mildew so its a good think. my tank doesn't smell that's a sign of a good tank and a happy hermit crab
no mold on crab shells is not bad for you but it is bad for the crab
If you have a hermit crab, we used to feed them dog food just break the pellets up into smaller sizes the hermit crabs do not eat much so watch the dog food for mold, just 2 nuggets will last a long time, the hard part is getting larger shells for the hermit crabs.
It depends on what your hermit crab eats, if you feed your hermit crab food you found at the pet store, just read the directions! If you feed it food from your home just give him how much you think he would eat ( be sure to remove old food daily)!
Bread is not an ideal food for hermit crabs as it lacks the necessary nutrients they need to thrive. It can also lead to digestive issues and mold growth if not consumed quickly. Instead, hermit crabs should be offered a varied diet that includes fresh fruits, vegetables, and specially formulated hermit crab food to ensure their health and well-being.
If your talking about fruit, you shouldnt let it dry out, then there are no nuitrients in it. But if your talking about any other food just leave it out in the sun, in a plastic baggie. (make sure it won't mold)
I had some named Hermie, Charles, and Elizabeth. Okay..so first....You must have sand and water. Sand so they can crawl and burrow and water so they stay hydrated. You can buy hermit crab food at your local pet store called Hermit Crab Variety Bites. You can also buy them Hermit Crab Cookies for little treats. So, you get them a big enough tank and you fill the bottom with enough sand for them to burrow in..i filled up like 5 inches but they probably dont need that much. Then you buy them a little water dish they can easily crawl in and out of, you dont want to drown them. Be careful to clean out the food they dont eat becuase it will get soggy and mold will grow..they eat that too but it can be harmful if flies lay their eggs in it. A rotting dead hermit crab typically exhibits a discolored, often darkened shell, with visible signs of decay such as mold or a foul odor. The meat inside may appear slimy, and the eyes or antennae can show signs of deterioration or detachment. The shell may also be empty or partially filled with decomposing matter, attracting insects or other scavengers. Overall, the crab's once vibrant colors are replaced by dull, murky tones.
There are many different kinds of ingredients that grow mold. Fruits and breads can grow many different kinds of mold.
You'll find that almost everything has the potential to grow mold. That includes foods which, when they rot, often grow mold. So yes, a pear can grow mold. I suggest you eat it before it does.
