Food webs show a whole area, such as a forest and would include all the organisms in there, whereas a food chain would only show a few animals.

For example, a food chain might depict some grass, a rabbit and a fox, but a web would show lots of different animals eating different things.

A food chain is a sequence of links from one species to another in a food web. Food chains show links from producer to consumer organisms. For example:

aquatic vegetation ---- fish ------- seagull

On the other hand a food web shows interconnections between food chains. For example:

aquatic vegetation ----------- fish --- seagull or fish ----- larger fish -------- sea eagle

In this food web there is a link from fish to seagull and also a link from fish to larger fish to sea eagle

A food web has many different links. It links off into different animals. Where as a food chains just a line of single animals that eat those animals like hawks eat bunnies and bunnies eat grass and grass is the producer. But in a food web it would be like hawks eat bunnies, snakes, and squirrels and squirrels eat nuts and bunnies eat grasshoppers and grasshoppers eat grass and snakes eat mice and mice eat leaves.
