Give your fish enough space to swim around in. I think of it as, the more fish you have, the bigger the tank should be. Don't have so many fish in a smaller tank.

Make sure to feed your fish everyday. This is obviously essential because if you don't, they will die, and that will for sure not make your fish's life better.

Make sure that you clean your tank whenever you sense that it is getting dirty. Clearer water makes your tank look a lot better, and it also helps the fish see and breathe easier. No body likes a dirty tank! It is also good to have a filter in your water, because it circulates the water, and makes it easier for the fish to breathe. Filters do make a difference, because I've had my fish for about seven years now, and It survived this long because of my filter.
