How do bananas get to this country?

To the US, bananas come by large cargo ships. They are shipped green and ripen, sometimes with some assistance, on the ships during travel. By the time they reach the supermarket or grocery store, most bananas are nearly ripe.

originaly Chinese immigrants that came here with the gold rush cultivated the wild bananas that they found growing around growing around Innisfail and Cardwell in north Queensland around 1883. other varietys were then imported from Fiji.
