Saltwater mussels feed by filtering plankton and small particles from the water. They use their gills to siphon water in, trapping food particles while expelling the filtered water. The particles are then transported to their mouth, where they are ingested. This filter-feeding method allows them to efficiently consume nutrients from their aquatic environment.
mussels live in fresh water till they grow and you can eat them:)......
Surely raw mussels are fresh mussels meaning they are still alive,That being the case keep live mussels in a cool place in a pail/bucket of water and feed lightly with oatmeal cereal (not cooked) salt the water slightly...Then cook when required...Only eat the ones that open after boiling that is the safe way to be sure..Shellfish should not be stored in refrigerator in its raw state...Once cooked eat at once
What Do Mussels Eat?What do freshwater mussels eat? • Fish, turtles, leaves? No - freshwater mussels eat microscopic plants and animals called plankton • They also eat bacteria and detritus (dead plant and animal pieces) suspended in the water. How do freshwater mussels eat? • Freshwater mussels do not hunt or search for their food; they wait for it to come to them • Freshwater mussels filter feed by sucking water in through a siphon (kind of like a little hose) • Water passes over gills where food particles get filtered out and carried by little hairs called cilia to the mouth
I believe the fresh and salt water mussels are different species and will not survive in one another specialised environments.
puffer fish eat horse mussels
They eat with their mouths.
No. Out of the water's mussels can carry a fatal disease.
Mussels are shellfish, not rabbits. I would suggest not feeding mussels leaves.
They can't live in saltwater because their body just doesn't support it. They reproduce and everything differently, and probably wouldn't live in salt water.
Mussels are filter feeders, meaning they feed on microscopic plants, algae, and particles that they filter from the water using their gills. They draw in water through their siphon, filter out the food particles, and then expel the filtered water.
mussels filter plankton suspended in the water column, which would include algae.
Some type of water turtles ( terrapins) eat shrimp, clams, crabs, mussels, insects, etc
