A safe way to catch a betta fish to clean its bowl is with a small fish net. A fish net removes some of the fishes natural protective body slime but as long as it is healthy the coating will quickly grow back.

pour out water of the tub it was in when you bought it. Catch the fish in the net and put it in the tank. It will swim out of the net and breath.

pet it. just kidding! i dont know how to play with a betta. i have one. my betta likes rocks and seashells in its tank he hides behind them and sleep ontop of them.
