Answer:It is usually extremely soft and the skin has gone very dark to almost a black colour. Just as with many other fruits, after you've quartered it, taken out the pit and peeled off the skin, you can cut out the bad, which are the dark to gray areas. It's often at the point of going bad that many fruits reach their peak texture and flavor. If the fruit is too soft to the touch there may not be enough to salvage though.
