If the hen has been running with a rooster for a week the eggs shold be fertile. If you break it open you can see a white speck on the yellow yolk (sperm). Once incubation has begun you check development by candling the eggs. Hold up to a bright light or flashlight and you can see the emybro inside after a week or so.
