Make a regular pie crust.

Add 2" water to a large pot with a tight cover. Bring to a boil. Add steel coaster to the bottom of this pot. In a glass baking bowl add pie crust and apple pie filling. Fold extra crust over itself. Reduce heat to a simmer. Add this glass bowl to pot sitting it on coaster - making sure glass bowl does not sit in the water (remove some water if needed) so that it does not touch the water. Cover tightly.

Add extra water to bottom of pot as needed.

Cook for a couple of hours until crust is dry and takes on a light color.

You can also add some (fruit) mincemeat between alternating layers of apples.
