Taming a teddy bear hamster or any hamster is not easy but it can be done. I have two hamsters that I trained, they are potty trained and come on command. Also one of my hamsters knows it rights from lefts. But back to your question; Hamsters take a lot of patience and praise more than a dog or cat. When training a hamster you need to make sure that you do the command the same each time or the hamster will not know the outcome.
Teaching your Hamster to Come:
First of all if you want to train your hamster to come to you, you can use tibits. (No sunflower seeds as they are prone to fatness) When your hamster comes near you, you give it the seed and pat it. Do this once and day everyday and you will get a result. Try working in one area for now, for your hamster to get use to the idea. This process can take a long time. but they will remember the trick once they have learned. Don't ever stop teaching them, they can learn more than you can think.
Once your hamster is coming to you increase the amount of distance from you and the hamster. Make sure you call its name and wait for it to come near you before you give it the treat.
Now that your hamster is coming to you try tapping the palm of your hand, so when the hamster comes it will crawl on your palm. This takes a bit more time for your hamster to master so be patient. Once it is on your palm you can feed it the treat.
After you hamster has mastered coming onto your hand and coming to you. You can stop feeding it tidbits all the time. Your hamster will learn to come no matter and not just for food. But still give him/her a tidbit every once in a while for it to feel the satisfaction of being trained and listening to you.
If you would like to know how to do other tricks please send me a message I will gladly tell you. I have vast experience with rodents. I have studied them for 2 years, and I have trained hamsters and guinea pigs to do tricks and to be potty trained I have not failed yet.
I also want to let any viewers know that some hamsters and rodents are just not able to train. Alot of them are, but there can be acceptations. Do not EVER force your rodents to do tricks because that is cruel and unnecessary.
You can say that but you should never hold a hamster on its first day home. It needs time to relax after a stressful ride home in a car and put in a strange cage. If it gets too stressed, it could get wet tail, a fatal disease caused by stress.
It takes about 16 days for your hamster to give birth dont rush her and try not to handle her unless u really need to just let her relax and prepare for the big day! Good luck! :)
There is lots like, Syrian, Chinese dwarf hamster, Campbells dwarf hamster, Robo dwarf hamster, Russian hamster. My favorite, is the blueberry campbells dwarf hamster and the Syrian hamster. They are the sweetest and easy to hold. NOT THE ROBO"S!!!
the hamster is scared when you corner it or put your hand s towards its face .the best thing to do is rub the sawdust from inside the cage in your hands then try to relax your hand with the Pam of the hand facing up. then the hamster will sniff the sawdust in your hand it should go on your hand but try not to lift it as it might get scared again ,try and put food in your finger tips and feed hamster as the fingertips seems to be smaller than the Pam of your hand .then give time for your pet hamster to trust you .
