How do you tell if you have a yeast infection?

Does the coochie itch? check

Does it smell like bread rising from yeast before putting in oven? check

Do you not listen to your mother's voice when wiping, 'front to back'? check

Did you forget a tampon and left it in there and its still there? ewww

You will have a cottage cheese like discharge and be so itchy you can hardly stand it! You will NOT have a foul smell, if you have a foul smell, you may have a vaginal infection, not a yeast infection.

Please be aware many STD's may look like a yeast infection.My advice is to see a health care provider as soon as possible .They make an over the counter yeast infection test you can buy.You can also go to your local Health Department or GYN for a test.The Dr. or nurse will check you and they can tell fairly easy if it's yeast or another condition,then you can get meds for it or buy over the counter.

The only sure way to know is from a doctor.

However; with experience you may be able to detect the difference from smell or sight.

Yeast infections typically have a stronger odor even from the start. The fungus growth is more earthy with a faintly 'yeast' or sour dough smell behind the stink. The worst yeast infections often smell a lot like week old armpit mixed with dirty socks and a hint of re-baking old stale bread.

Bacteria infections often start off with no smell, as they progress it may turn slightly towards rancid oil. As the bacteria kills off more cells it leans more towards the smell of death with sharp bitter notes.

If there is a visual discharge, a yeast infection is typically a more milky white while a bacterial infection leans towards being slightly darker or greyish. However; if you are waiting so long that you have discharge you really should consult a doctor anyway as the problem has progressed pretty far.

Other symptoms are actually quite similar. Itching, burning, rashes and other side effects are all simply caused by irritation of the skin and internal lining and both types of infection cause similar irritation.

Prevention or early treatment attempts are also similar: proper hygiene, proper nutrition (to boost immune system), vinegar cleansing, etc

If you cannot tell, or if it does not respond quickly to early cleansing, consult a doctor.
