Sea lettuce is an edible group of green algae. It may be tropical originally, but now is found worldwide. It is a food source for many different sea animals as well as humans in fishing villages in Scandinavia, Great Britain, Ireland, China and Japan. It has no more protection than a land lettuce. It grows very quickly and can have very long leaves when it is in a sheltered area. When it dies, it releases hydrogen sulfide as it decomposes.
