Chameleons can change color in as little as 20 seconds. They're born with special cells that have color in them and these cells are in layers under the chameleon's outer skin. When the pigment cells change, the chameleon's skin color changes. Many think chameleon's change color to blend in with their surroundings, but scientific studies show that light, temperature, and mood cause them to change, making them more comfortable, or helping them to communicate with one another.
