Hey, sorry if I'm too late but, it actually differs and depends on the gold fish its self.
I remember when I had a gold fish I had it in a cup of water and by the time I got home it died. I was crying but that's not the point. Every year I got that same kind it always died. An average gold fish though, lasts about 10-25 years. There are some that live longer than that. Just make sure to give it a big tank and feed it properly everyday.

I heard this from someone. Though it is unbelievable, goldfish, if tooken care of well, can live up to 25 years! I have heard of a goldfish that lived 50 years! I cannot imagine my little one inch goldfish living for THAT long. =)
