Depends on many different factors... some very old wines may last only a half hour or less after being opened. In general, however, most wines will last two days or so provided you re-cork them and store them in the refrigerator... the idea being to keep out the oxygen. Just remember to reds out an hour or so beforehand so they have time to come back up in temperature for serving. There are many excellent wine vacuum pumps and machines to fill bottles with inert gas to preserve the wine even longer.
White wine should be consumed within a week of opening. Red wine can stay around a bit longer, but it should also be consumed within 2 weeks of opening. Oxygen is a big enemy of wine.
