In the average aquarium a sucking loach or Chinese algae eater it's more common name will live around 7 - 10 years, but claims of up to 15 years are not uncommon.

A sucking loach primarily feeds on algae, detritus, and small invertebrates found on the substrate of freshwater environments. They use their specialized mouths to graze on surfaces, scraping off food. In captivity, they can also be fed a diet of sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, and other plant-based foods to supplement their natural diet.
