Roughly 10 minutes to boil the water; another 10-20 after adding the eggs; and then 2 if you "shortcut it" and just run them under cold water, or about 20 if you put them in the refrigerator.

Those are the approximate numbers for me, and I usually make a half-dozen at a time.

The time depends on how "hard" one wants the egg cooked. The extra-large and jumbo sized eggs available today require somewhat longer cooking than the times listed in old cookbooks.

soft-cooked: 3-4 minutes

firm yolk: 5-6 minutes

hard-cooked: 15 minutes.
