That depends on the size of the goldfish. This useful formula might come in handy:

5 cm fish in 250ml of water

10 cm fish in 500ml of water

A 10 gallon tank isn't big enough for goldfish. The minimum size for a goldfish tank is 30 gallons. Remember- the 2 inch long goldfish you buy at the petstore has the potentional to grow up to 10 inches long; a 10 inch long fish cannot, and will not, survive in a 10 gallon tank. There are also advantages to buying a bigger tank- not only will your fish be healthier but you also can have the option of owning multiple goldfish. And, lets not forget, a bigger tank will be me forgiving if you were to put too much of a certain chemical in, or got lazy about water changes and let the ammonia or nitrites build-up.

yes, depending on which kind you get if it is a normal one you can have up to 5 and same to fancy goldfish i have a 10 gallon aquarium and i have a pictus catfish, a ghost catfish, and 2 hatchet fish, never ever believe petsmart on pictus catfish because on the website it says 29+ gallons required and in the store it says 10+ gallons required. You should not keep any goldfish in a 10 gallon aquarium as it is too small; the smallest tank you should use is a 20 gallon, and you can only have 1 goldfish in it regardless of how tiny it may look when you first buy them.

The "one inch per gallon" information quoted by others is completely incorrect for goldfish.
