There are also certain types of Betta's that cost a bit more including half moon, double tail, and crown tail which generally cost 8.00 all the way up to 15.00. Betta's (iftaken care of ) can live just over 8 years if healthy and clean.
Depending on the type of betta, they typically range from US$3 to US$7 for just the fish.

Well, in Singapore (Where everything is expensive!) they are about S$10.00.
Male Betas can be purchased for under 5.00 for the regular ones and up to 7.00 for the CrownTail. Females can be purchased for as little as 3.50. Do not mix males together as they will fight, sometimes to death.
