How often do hermit crabs molt?

I have 6 hermits. Once they decide to change shells, they do it very quickly. They are vunerable without the protection of their shell. I have 7 hermits. I have seen 4 of them change.It would probobly take about 10 seconds.

Large hermit crabs molt longer and sometimes up to 4 months. It is very important they have the proper nutrients and tank conditions to have a successful molt. you cannot touch them during that period for they are very vulnerable during molting period. hermit crabs can molt a couple times a year.
