if it hasn't been opened, eat it
No, hence the word expired. It is unsafe to eat anything expired. Dispose of anything expired.
only if it has been opened and then left out
Expired maple syrup can hurt you if there is mold growing on the bottom of it. But if you scrape off the mold then the chances of you getting sick are very slim. If it were me I wouldn't take a chance. I say this because one of my friends got appendicitis after eating old maple syrup. He got this because the crystal sugar in it gets stuck in your appendix and can cause major pain. So before you eat old maple syrup, please be safe and don't Kill yourself.
Yogurt generally isn't bad at all, unless it's expired and is then rotten.
ACH Food Companies, Inc., the conglomerate that owns and markets Karo syrup, says, "Karo syrup is safe to eat for an indefinite period of time, whether it has been opened or not opened. Light corn syrup may turn slightly yellow with age, but this is normal and not harmful. Storage conditions affect product quality. Before or after opening, Karo syrup may be stored at room temperature. Bottles may be refrigerated after opening, however, the syrup will be thicker and slower to pour."
No not that i know of because my little sister opened a big lollipop two months ago it hasn't gone bad yet but me in general i would not eat it.

Personally, I wouldn't eat it. Those cans last for years so it must be really old. If its just a little past the expiration it should be fine. What you can do is open it and smell it and if it smells bad don't eat it
It depends on how expired the mayo is. If it is 2-5 days expired you should be fine. If it is 1-2 weeks expired you might get sick. I have the solution though. DON'T EAT EXPIRED MAYO! ALWAYS CHECK THE EXPIRATION! Another later ANS: GET SICK? What does that scare tactic mean? Just think for yourself. Keep the opened mayo in the cool fridge like the label always instructs. I have used mayo waaayyy past the printed expiry date and never had any bad physical reactions, and saved some hard earned $. "Sell by" dates DO NOT mean it is now spoiled rotten and totally uneatable. "Sell by" means only food store shelf life. If you own it and forgot to eat eat it: Judge by looking at it, smelling it, and tasting it... how hard is that?
