In most food webs the Sun is the ultimate source of energy. Some food webs start with chemotrophs and in those cases the source of the energy are chemicals often from underwater volcanoes.

the sun
The sun is the primary source of energy in most ecosystems. Through photosynthesis, producers like plants and algae convert sunlight into chemical energy, which is then consumed by herbivores, carnivores, and other organisms in the food web. Without the sun, the production of energy-rich organic compounds at the base of the food web would not be possible.
Photosynthesis is the foundation for the food web, as it is the process by which plants, algae, and some bacteria convert sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water into energy-rich sugars that other organisms in the food web rely on as a source of energy.
the sun is the beginning of all food chains
The arrows in a food web points from a food source to the organism that eats it. It shows the flow of energy from organism to organism.
Producers on a food web are organisms, like plants, algae, and some bacteria, that can produce their own energy through photosynthesis. They use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to create sugars and other organic molecules, which serve as a source of energy for themselves and other organisms in the food web that consume them.
The transfer of food energy from the source in plants through a series of organisms with repeated eating and being eaten is the Food Chain. The interlocking pattern of Food Chains makes up the Food Web. It's called a food WEB because its a web of interconnecting food chains. That why the food chain is important. THANK YOU FOR ASKING.
, I will answer this question on the basis that you know what a food web is. Well, for those who do not, it is a food chain but encompassing a system rather than focusing on an organism. The ultimate source of energy would be PLANTS! Plants that can generate their own food through nutrients from the soil and with aid from water and sunlight all of which being non living things and thus we conclude as herbivores eat plants and carnivores eat herbivores and other carnivores and plants who generate their own food eat none of the above they are the ultimate source of energy that you would consider in a food web. I am not sure you would consider sunlight as part of the food-web and thus conclude that the sun is the ultimate source of energy, but from what I learnt when I was younger was that PLANTS are the ultimate source of energy. Hope I Helped
The sun is the source of all energy in a food web. The primary producers - plants - use the sun's energy to produce organic compounds. Some producers eg micro-organism use inorganic chemical reactions to produce energy
The Sun
Producers in a food web are organisms, such as plants or algae, that are capable of photosynthesis and produce their own food using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide. They are the primary source of energy in the food web, serving as the base for all other organisms that rely on them for nourishment.
