NO, not exactly the same. The traditional "Brown Hound" was normally made-to-order and used a batter made from corn meal milled from white corn. (The white corn actually browns deeper.)

As "brown-hounds" became more mass-produced and pre-packaged, it was cheaper to use meal ground from yellow corn for the batter and they were branded as "corn dogs".
