Yes and no. The browning is a result of oxidation, much like what happens to bananas and avocados. If the fruit meat does not taste acidic (alcohol taste), smell foul, or have a slimey texture, it is edible. It's just not too appealing to the eye. Browning tends to happen quicker if the fruit is stored in metal containers or left exposed too long before storing it in a tightly sealed container.
