Ply wood is man-made and contains lots of glue to stick the wood together. It is dangerous for hamsters for this reason. Hamsters are also allergic to cedar wood so avoid that too. MDF also has glue in and shouldn't be used. If you a trying to make a hamster cage out of wood I don't recommend it because the hamster can chew through it and you cannot clean it well.
