In galactic terms, it would be described as being flat.

If a piece of wood was 100 feet long and only 1 foot in depth, would you call that flat? I would.

The Milky Way is 100,000 light years across and only 1,000 light years thick.

It is "spun" out with the thickest part being the centre. It will be similar to NGC 4452 which is a galaxy that has been viewed edge on. [See related link for a pictorial]
