I'm not sure about what they do mixed together but its a good chance that the vinegar would decrease the effectiveness of the chemical softener. i do know, however, that vinegar is a natural fabric softer. its not going to make your clothes as soft as a chemical one would, but its better than nothing. i would just use the vinegar by its self on whatever you are trying to wash, until you know for sure if you can mix the two, especially since it will give you a mild softening effect anyway.
