A pregnant female Hermit Crab will have eggs on the side of her abdomen. She will go out to the ocean and let the eggs drift out which will sink to the bottom and grow among the plankton. When the eggs hatch the babies will dig into the sand to molt a couple times. They will then swim to shore (although most of them get eaten by fish) and be able to breathe on land. They will find shells to go into which will affect the growth of their abdomen. They will then grow by molting every 12-18 months until they die.
