Yes it can. The intestines are what you are seeing. It is the digested food the shrimp or prawns had eaten and some sand or grit usually. To remove the intestine First you must peel the scale away. Then you insert a sharp knife in the back of the prawn. Holding the prawn in opposite hand, cradle it in your palm by your thumb and fingers, looking directly at the back, slice downward from the top to the bottom in the very center of the shrimp. Do not cut all the way through, about half way, this will take some practice so go slow. Once it is cut you should be able to see a long thin squiggly tube. Pull that out and discard. Run water over the area as you finish and place in clean bowl. Enjoy!
