Sepsis can be caused by many things. It has to do with a severe infection entering the blood stream. It can be from something as simple as a bad tooth. Sepsis itself is not contagious. The cause of the initial infection should be the concern. If there is a reason to believe that the person is contagious, the hospital should instruct them before they are discharged.
