The vision statement/the mission statement/the motto are usually gibberish created by upper management that means so very little to the frontline employees that it generally cannot be applies in any way. The Customer Is Always Right: If the customer is always right, what happens when the customer is not right? This motto contains nothing valuable to help in this situation. Customer Service Is Job One: Shouldn't job one be to get the job right so customer service isn't required? I would rather a company become proficient in creating a quality product/service than become efficient in explaining away the problems of their inferior product/service. The Hilton is no different than any big company. Management is too far removed from the reality of the work to care about what their silly motto actually means. And front line staff has no guidance for solving problems using the meaningless motto and must make it up as they go along.
