While yogurt is generally used for smoothies, there is nog good reason you cannot substitute cottage cheese as the protein portion of the smoothie. You would use 1/4 cup cottage cheese, some cut up fruit (if you are making a fruit smoothie) or veggies (if you are making a green smoothie), some seeds such as sunflower seeds, and some fruit juice. Put the ingredients into your blender and puree, or put them in a large cup and mix with an immersion blender. You can add sweetener to taste.
