Traditionally, a small plastic baby doll (only an inch or so long) or "king" is hidden inside the king cake.
King cakes are traditionally decorated with vibrant icing in the colors of purple, green, and gold, symbolizing justice, faith, and power. They often feature a decorative sprinkle of colored sugar and may include a plastic baby hidden inside, representing luck. Some variations may also incorporate additional toppings like fruit, cream cheese, or praline, enhancing both their appearance and flavor. Overall, the festive decorations make king cakes a centerpiece for Mardi Gras celebrations.

JESUS
Modern day bakers fill King's cakes at Epiphany with any number of fillings -- cream cheese, apple, cherry or almond paste. The filling is not purposefully "hidden," however. What is often hidden in a King's cake is a bean or coin as a token of favor to the finder when the cake is eaten. This "chosen one" is sometimes crowned "King" or "Queen" in celebration of the Magis' visit to Christ.
