RED food coloring caused an epidmic a few years ago because some people where allergic to the red food dye in M+Ms. now that problem is fixed, however.
if you want disadvantages in terms of flavor, addin too much dye to foods can result in you actually being able to taste the dye. generally, food dye is considered a yucky taste. hope that helps!
