It's not unheard of for period like cramping to occur as early as 7-14 days before your period. However the cramping may be caused by a UTI, approaching period or even Ovulation. If the cramping is severe enough to require pain killers & your period doesn't arrive on time, then see your Doctor for a pregnancy blood test & also have a urine test performed for a UTI.

You may have thought it was your period but it may have been vaginal bleeding. Have you taken a pregnancy test? I would take one after the bleeding has stopped. The bleeding you experienced could infact be implantation bleeding not your period. I say this because of the symptoms you explained.

That happened to me when I was that far in my pregnancy and everything was fine. Doctor said that was perfectly normal and some people do a small amount of bleeding. I wouldn't worry unless it's heavy bleeding for several days.
